Marianne's House
http://marianneshouse.org/
I first read about Marianne's House in our local newspaper, The Bellingham Herald, when a story ran about their grand opening.  I visited their website, and have returned often, and enjoyed seeing the progress of this wonderful program.  I encourage you to check out the website, and this worthy organization.

Shortly after the completion of our home, the woods surrounding our yard became the playground for two young hawks always under the watchful eye of their mother.  I spent many breaks from my computer keeping a watchful eye on all three of them as they  flew from tree to tree and every now and then a long glide through the clearing.  One afternoon I heard my dogs barking strangely and went to investigate.  It seems one of the young hawks had flown into the upstairs window and had fallen to the ground.  It was unable to fly away.  The mother hawk was making a very sad sound in the sky above us.  I was so relieved to see the ad  for this organization in the yellow pages.  A young women (a volunteer) came and captured the young hawk and took it to their facility to check out the injuries.  Luckily nothing was broken, only a sprained wing.  Five days later they came again, this time to set the recuperated hawk free, back to join his family.   The mother hawk has nested nearby yearly and we see her and her seasons offspring every summer.

I have donated to this organization and would love to be able to donate more.

Not all the donations would be earmarked for non-profit 501(3)(C) organizations.  Within our community events happen that affect one person or one family so greatly that it cannot but help affect so many others as well.

Cal, my youngest son is 7 years old and in the 2nd grade at Happy Valley Elementary.  Every Friday he wears a t-shirt he purchased at a fundraiser for a kindergartener.  In February Kyle was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and is undergoing treatment.  Even when insurance covers the costs of treatment, rarely are we prepared for the loss of income that this type medical diagnosis brings about.

I don't know the family well, Kyle has an older brother that was on Cal's basketball team this season, so we often saw him at his brothers games and practices.  He would run around the gym while his father timed him.

As the Happy Valley community has on going fundraisers, to be able to help by alleviating some of the financial burdens of young families such as this would be with in the scope of my vision for Carlina.

Group Fundraisers
I would like to make the calendar available for groups to sell as a fundraiser.  We have several Horse groups that could make Equine Calendar available for sale or the Garden Clubs that could sell the Flora themed calendar to raise funds for their activities.

Scholarships
As my vision expands as to the hopes for Carlina, I would like to at one point offer college scholarships to those with the financial need.  This would be in the future, but I will be looking in to it further and keep you up to date as to the possibilities.
